The Project

  • A rebrand of an existing convention, including key art, new logo, website, street pole banner ads, conference badges, swag and style guide. I chose to work on PAX West, a gaming convention that takes place each year in Seattle, working with a theme of Gamers Unite.
  • The idea of rain and stormy weather ran deep throughout the rebranding process, appearing in the logo itself, and throughout other collateral such as the attendee badges, street pole banners and swag. This idea carried through as a motivator for gamers to “stay inside” and enjoy their hobbies, coming together as a community out of the rain.
  • The key art throughout the collateral was simple design emulating the D-Pad of a game controller and a ‘plus’ (+) sign, to promote gamers coming together for the convention. The simple design also made it easier to incorporate the rain elements from the logo design to add continuity throughout.
  • The challenge with this project throughout was the amount of different collateral and designs that needed to be created, the largest group of designs I had undertaken at that point for one project. This was overcome by breaking down the overall work to manageable chunks, and setting realistic deadlines for each piece and sticking to those deadlines.
