SanDisk
A Package Redesign

The Project
- A package redesign intended to remove all or almost all the plastic from a current design of an existing product we use, focusing on sustainable design. An additional optional challenge was to create a physical mockup of the package once the design was completed, to simulate real-world printing with die lines, trim lines and CMYK color output.
- The current packaging of the SanDisk item I chose used plastic in the front, but also throughout the interior of the flat pack. The goal was to eliminate all of this plastic with a hanging box design, utilizing the same logos and information, with the exception of the small detailed print in several languages found on the original package, which could be provided as an booklet supplement inside the hanging box.
- The real challenge with this redesign was conceptualizing how the design would fit together once the box was assembled. I first made a blank, physical mockup of the box, to better understand where each panel from the die line would end up assembled. This also helped inform where each logo or image would be best placed.
- I also created a physical mockup of the completed design, which was very interesting to complete, as it was the first time seeing a physical representation of a completed three-dimensional design, apart from my terrible arts and crafts skills of assembling it.
