Just Keep Swimming

An Infographic

an infographic poster with cartoon characters about swimming

The Project

  • An infographic intended to be displayed in a community center as a passive education effort on a subject appropriate for the attendees of such a center. I chose to focus on Swimming, and how it is considered one of, if not the best, form of exercise across all ages, ability and fitness levels. The infographic offers reasons behind this as well as includes a graph of data to practice using the graph tool in Illustrator. As part of the project, at least three spot illustrations were to be created that supported or were related to the information being conveyed.
  • My inspiration came from vintage educational posters and videos to create a nostalgic feel for older segments of the audience, but also attractive to younger audiences who may not be familiar with the style. I also drew inspiration from easily identifiable pool signs, like “No Diving,” “No Running” etc. for some of the text.
  • I originally wanted to utilize the 3D modeling effects in Illustrator with pixel art for my spot illustrations of related internal organs that benefited from swimming, but found they did not fit the overall look that I was trying to achieve with poster. I then returned to my inspiration and decided to illustrate anthropomorphic cartoon characters to display. I was apprehensive about this at first as I feel I can develop my fine artist skills more. But this became good practice for me in Illustrator and creating such designs. Overall, I am happy with the results of these illustrations.
